About Patience Ren

Patience Ren is a licensed patent attorney based in the San Francisco Bay Area who focuses on commercial disputes encompassing a wide range of industries including internet commerce, mobile device technologies, clean energy, and life sciences.

She has handled complex civil disputes for businesses and individuals at the trial and appellate levels in both state and federal courts. That experience also lends to her expertise in managing prelitigation disputes, due diligence, and other business risks.

Prior to starting her own law practice, Patience was a partner at a boutique intellectual property firm in San Francisco. She had also worked as a patent and commercial litigation associate at large law firms and clerked for the Hon. Beth Labson Freeman in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. Before law school, Patience was a patent agent, helping inventors and entrepreneurs obtain patents in fields related to life sciences.

Patience has also been an active member of various legal communities. She served as a member of the American Bar Association House of Delegates during 2021 Annual Meeting, as well as a delegate to the 2021 ABA Young Lawyers Division Assembly. She was a speaker and/or moderator many times for webinars and conferences for the IEEE Santa Clara Valley Section, National Asian Pacific American Bar Association, International Trademark Association, California Minority Counsel Program, and others.

Before entering the legal field, Patience studied protein misfolding and its relationship to neurodegenerative diseases when she was a doctoral student at Stanford University. Patience loves to delve into complex issues - legal, technical, or scientific - and to come up with a solution tailored for each client.
